Technical Appendix: Across the BC–AD Divide

This appendix supports Across the BC–AD Divide: How the Chronological Mirror Works. The tables separate four related operations: ordinary year numbering, reflection of signed year numbers, the canonical seasonal Mirror, and the Rounded display convention.

1. Civil dates and astronomical year numbers

Let x denote an ordinary astronomical year number. A civil BC label B BC becomes x = 1 − B. An AD label AD D becomes x = D. This is the numbering described in NASA’s explanation of year dating conventions.

Civil year labelAstronomical number xExplanation
6 BC−51 − 6
2 BC−11 − 2
1 BC0The label zero denotes 1 BC.
AD 1+1AD numbering is unchanged.
AD 2+2AD numbering is unchanged.
AD 5+5AD numbering is unchanged.

For corresponding seasonal points, the civil cross-axis count is B + D − 1. Thus 6 BC → AD 5 gives 6 + 5 − 1 = 10, exactly as +5 − (−5) = 10.

Reflection on this year-number line is a separate operation, x → −x. It takes 1406 BC, whose coordinate is −1405, to +1405, ordinarily printed AD 1405. Their civil separation is 1406 + 1405 − 1 = 2810. The reflection does not, by itself, specify a day or month.

Three uses of zero must remain distinct: astronomical year-number zero labels 1 BC; File 09’s proof-only phase coordinate places zero at the start of AD 1; the Rounded coordinate zero is the algebraic origin of its display grid. The common numeral does not make these three coordinate conventions identical.

2. Noah’s normal Masoretic Text (MT) lifespan and its reflected image

The textual lifespan is explicit:

After the flood, Noah lived 350 years. So Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died.

— Genesis 9:28–29, BSB

Genesis 7:6 supplies age 600 at the Flood. The absolute BC placement comes from the repository’s reconstructed chronology.

The normal MT setting used here has 430 years in Egypt, no +60 Terah adjustment, and no inserted second Cainan. File 47 §5.2 gives Noah’s normal birth at 3058 BC in that setting. Applying his 950-year lifespan places his death at 2108 BC. File 18 §2.1.3 corroborates the lifespan through its minimum row, 2843–1893 BC; adding the declared 215-year sojourn difference to both labels produces 3058–2108 BC.

Event / nodeNormal MT dateAstronomical xReflected xGenerated AD label
Noah’s birth3058 BC−3057+3057AD 3057, birth-image
Flood begins2458 BC−2457+2457AD 2457, Flood-image
Noah’s death2108 BC−2107+2107AD 2107, death-image

The source chronology gives 3058 − 2458 = 600, 2458 − 2108 = 350, and 3058 − 2108 = 950. On the reflected side, chronological order runs from AD 2107 to AD 2457 to AD 3057: 2457 − 2107 = 350, then 3057 − 2457 = 600, totaling 950.

The reflected labels are newly calculated illustrations of x → −x applied to source-controlled inputs. They are not additional canonical historical events or a newly established cross-Mirror harmonic. No seasonal suffix is attached to these annual coordinates.

Flood and Arphaxad: the normal MT Flood starts in 2458 BC; Arphaxad’s birth remains 2456 BC. The legacy’s combined “Flood/Arphaxad” label must not erase the two-year separation. Genesis 11:10–11 reads:

This is the account of Shem. Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad. And after he had become the father of Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters.

— Genesis 11:10–11, BSB

File 47’s September 13 clarification separately identifies 2558 BC as Shem’s Gear-2 triad/biological reference and 2556 BC as his elected-lineage station. They are different defined roles, not two biological births. This introduction uses Noah’s normal biography for the reflection example so that its arithmetic needs no switch between those roles. The often-used Noah Gear-1 interval, 3056–2106 BC, is a distinct permitted setting, unused in the figure.

3. Single dates and seasonal pairs

In File 09, t marks Tishri/autumn and n marks Nisan/spring. The Conquest pair 1407t/1406n BC means autumn followed by the next spring. In this reconstructed setting, the autumn member marks east-side occupation by the 2.5 tribes; the spring member marks the west-side Jordan crossing and occupation. Its internal width is approximately half a year. The paired AD display is AD 1406t/1407n, also autumn followed by spring.

Comparison stateSource and counterpartCivil calculationSpan
Single autumn date1407t BC → AD 1407t1407 + 1407 − 12813
Single spring date1406n BC → AD 1406n1406 + 1406 − 12811
Paired autumn component1407t BC → AD 1406t1407 + 1406 − 12812
Paired spring component1406n BC → AD 1407n1406 + 1407 − 12812

The first two rows describe standalone numeric-year counterparts. The last two execute the paired construction. They are not competing answers for an unchanged pair of endpoints.

File 09 Appendix A.3 uses a simplified Julian phase model to prove the paired geometry. For this proof, spring is represented by April 1 and autumn by October 1; these are coordinate choices, not identifications of ancient festival dates. Let a be its proof-only coordinate, with a = 0 at January 1, AD 1. The Conquest pair has coordinates −1406.25 and −1405.75; the AD pair has +1405.75 and +1406.25. Each pair is half a year wide, and their centers are −1406 and +1406. Thus their centers bracket the stated origin symmetrically.

The equal 2812 spans compare corresponding seasons across the two pairs. Those same-season row connections should not be drawn as the individual point-to-point reflection of each member. Reflection reverses the members’ order; the pair as a whole is preserved. In the proof coordinate, −1406.25 reflects to +1406.25 (AD 1407n), while −1405.75 reflects to +1405.75 (AD 1406t). Arranging the reflected points chronologically gives AD 1406t → AD 1407n.

An AD sequence of 1406n → 1407t would instead extend from spring to autumn of the following year, approximately 1.5 years. That is why replacing the specified AD pair with that sequence breaks the construction.

The mean (2813 + 2811) ÷ 2 = 2812 helps explain this particular paired result. It is not a general instruction to average unrelated date alternatives. Exact single-season counterparts also have their own phase midpoints; File 09 Appendix A.5 reserves the January-1 symmetry claim here for the paired centers.

4. Creation to the reflected Conquest: 5520 → 6000

File 09 §§3.1–3.2 supplies the complete relationship. The Creation endpoint pair is 4115t/4114n BC. The reflected Conquest pair is AD 1406t/1407n.

Apply Priestly conversion25/23 of the span5520 × 25/236000
Interpret the converted measureSix thousand-year days6 × 10006000

The familiar 4114 BC remains the normal Creation-week endpoint throughout this comparison.

The older shorthand “4114 BC + AD 1406 = 5520” is insufficient as a civil equation: those two unsuffixed labels alone give 5519. The canonical seasonal expansion above supplies the intended endpoints and retains the civil subtraction of one on both rows.

The 25/23 operation converts a duration; it does not change the original elapsed span to 6000 or supply a new AD event date. File 09 explicitly interprets the result through Creation’s work/rest pattern and the Conquest’s rest theme. That is the theological reading of the arithmetic, not an independent historical dating proof. The Creation and reflected Conquest pairs need not themselves be equidistant from the Mirror origin: this is a comparison to a reflected target, not a claim that Creation is the reflection of Conquest.

5. The September 25 Rounded display convention

The author clarification at the beginning of File 51a controls the pure Rounded display in Files 51a, 51b, 52a, and 52b. For a displayed BC number B and AD number D, use q = −(B − 1) on the BC side and q = D − 1 on the AD side. Reflection is q → −q.

Current symmetric Rounded rendering−1405+14051406 BC → AD 14062810 Rounded units
Civil count of the current printed labels——1406 BC → AD 14062811 civil years

For opposite-side Rounded labels, coordinate width = B + D − 2. The civil count between those printed labels is B + D − 1, one greater. The coordinates lie on the multiples-of-five grid; their nonzero displayed labels end in 1 or 6 on either side. Their last digit supplies no Nisan or Tishri phase.

Older Protocol 1 equations that explicitly use AD 1405 retain their civil meaning. A newly drawn pure Rounded diagram uses AD 1406 for q = +1405. The clarification changes the display rule within its declared scope; it does not authorize shifting actual dates or File 09’s phase-resolved dates. This appendix does not open the separate provisional mixed inverse/expansion constructions discussed elsewhere in that amendment.

6. A quick guide to the methods

QuestionRelevant operationExample
How many civil years separate two selected endpoints?BC + AD − 1, with phases handled when needed1406 BC → AD 1406 = 2811 at corresponding annual points.
What is the opposite signed astronomical year number?x → −x1406 BC, x = −1405, produces AD 1405.
How does the Conquest’s seasonal pair cross the canonical Mirror?File 09’s paired seasonal construction1407t/1406n BC → AD 1406t/1407n; matched seasonal spans 2812.
How is a pure Rounded coordinate displayed?q → −q; print magnitude + 1 on either sideq = ±1405 displays 1406 BC / AD 1406; width 2810.

The theological association of the calendar hinge with Christ does not make the chosen coordinate origin an independently established birthday. Likewise, translating or reflecting a date does not turn its generated counterpart into an event dated in Scripture. Each operation serves a defined comparison.
