This appendix supports “From Solomon to Zerubbabel: The Temple’s 430-Year Link”. The main article uses the 967 → 537 BC foundation pair and the 586 → 537 → 516 BC restoration sequence. The tables keep the events, date displays, and kinds of calculation distinct.

1. The foundation-to-foundation comparison
The controlling source is File 19 §10.6, with a parallel statement in File 17 §5.5. It preserves two paired displays:
| Display | Solomon’s foundation | Zerubbabel’s foundation | Calculation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Same-month comparison used in this article | 967 BC, second month | 537 BC, second month | 967 − 537 = 430 |
| Ordinary whole-year display | 966 BC | 536 BC | 966 − 536 = 430 |
The source retains both pairs. Moving from the first row to the second changes both year labels together, so the 430-year separation remains unchanged. Neither row licenses mixing its first endpoint with the other row’s second endpoint.
The first row compares the foundations at year-and-month resolution. It does not establish an exact number of elapsed days. The biblical texts identify the second month; Ezra 3 does not supply a matching foundation day of the month. The BC labels are the canonical chronology’s reconstruction, not dates printed in Kings or Ezra.
For this study, the biblical spring calendar is the default. Ziv is explicitly the second month in 1 Kings 6:1. The separate regnal-year questions behind adjacent BC labels are not new calendar transformations applied to the figures.
2. The foundation divides seventy years
File 17 §7.3 registers the following restoration sequence:
| From → to | Event interval | Year-label span | Seven-year units |
|---|---|---|---|
| 586 → 537 BC | First Temple falls → new foundation | 49 | 7 × 7 |
| 537 → 516 BC | New foundation → second Temple completed | 21 | 3 × 7 |
| 586 → 516 BC | First Temple falls → second Temple completed | 70 | 10 × 7 |
49 + 21 = 70, and 7 + 3 = 10 seven-year units. These are divisions of the stated year labels. Destruction, foundation, and completion fall in different months, so this table does not claim an exact anniversary-to-anniversary duration for each part.
Keep the 537 BC foundation label when reproducing this particular division. 536 − 516 = 20, not 21. The ordinary 966/536 foundation pair in the first table is a coordinated alternative display of the 430 relationship; its 536 label must not be inserted into the 49 + 21 diagram.
The same source also lists 606 → 536 BC = 70 for the exile/proclamation field. That is a different seventy-year span. It does not replace the Temple fall-to-completion sequence, 586 → 516 BC.
3. What the texts supply
| Passage | Textual datum or event | Use in this study |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Kings 6:1, 37 | Solomon’s fourth year; Ziv, the second month; foundation laid | First foundation and matching month |
| Ezra 3:8–10 | Second year after arrival; second month; work and foundation | Second foundation and matching month |
| Ezra 4:24; 5:1–2 | Work ceases; Haggai and Zechariah encourage renewed building | Interruption and renewal within the rebuilding history |
| Zechariah 4:9 | Zerubbabel’s hands lay the foundation and will complete the house | Promise of completion |
| Ezra 6:15–16 | Completion on Adar 3 in Darius’s sixth year; dedication | Completion event assigned to 516 BC in the displayed chronology |
| Daniel 10:2–3, 12–13 | Three weeks of mourning; twenty-one days of opposition | Interpretive comparison with the 21-year rebuilding interval |
The 21 years run from foundation to completion and include interruption. They are not a claim that the work was continuously halted for twenty-one years.
Daniel’s weeks remain days in the quoted biblical setting. File 17 §7.4 reads them alongside the years through a day–year comparison. This is an interpretation of the shared number and theme, not an explicit biblical synchronization of the two histories.
Daniel 9 and Daniel 10 also retain their separate settings: Daniel 9:1 names Darius’s first year; Daniel 10:1 names Cyrus’s third year. This article does not assign the Daniel 9 revelation to the Temple’s 537/536 BC foundation dates or turn Daniel 10’s first-month date into the beginning of the entire rebuilding interval.
The numerical comparison is exact under the displayed coordinates. Its theological significance is an interpretation of those relationships; no statistical probability is asserted.
4. Other Temple counts keep their own endpoints
The foundation-to-foundation 430 must remain distinct from the royal-reign calculation explained in File 19 §§10.4–10.6:
| Calculation | Result | What is being counted |
|---|---|---|
| 967 − 537; or 966 − 536 | 430 | First foundation → second foundation |
| 36 + 394.5 | 430.5 | Solomon’s post-foundation years plus the sequential Judah reign ledger |
| 1016 − 586 | 430 | Schematic foundation-to-destruction year-label display; the month-aware source treats it as a close approximation |
The first calculation does not round 430.5 down to 430. It has different endpoints. The schematic 1016 BC foundation must likewise remain distinct from the 967/966 BC foundation pair. The Kings of Judah study explains the historical and sequential-reign frameworks in more detail.
A further distinction concerns Solomon’s construction period. 1 Kings 6:37–38 gives the fourth-year/second-month foundation and eleventh-year/eighth-month completion, and states that he built the house in seven years. A seven-year, six-month calculation requires a declared reading of those year-and-month labels. “Exactly 7.5 years” is not the text’s stated construction total, and this article does not convert it into a historically established day count.
