Mahalalel and Enoch: Tables and Chronological Notes

This appendix supports Mahalalel and Enoch: The 1260 and 1290 Patterns. It keeps three measurements distinct: the 1260-year sum of two lifespans, the 1290-year interval from Creation to Mahalalel’s death, and the Rounded 2580-year whole divided into two equal 1290s.

The principal controls are File 18 §§2.1.2–2.1.3 for the normal Masoretic Text (MT) chronology and File 51a §§3.4, 4A.9, 7A, and 10.7 for the Rounded comparisons. The 1260 lifespan sum is recomputed from the canonical inputs and preserves a central observation of the earlier discussion. The Rounded midpoint is explicitly registered in File 51a.

1. Scriptural inputs and family relationships

PersonFatherhood ageYears after the named son’s birthRecorded totalBSB source
Mahalalel65, at Jared’s birth830895Genesis 5:15–17
Jared162, at Enoch’s birth800962Genesis 5:18–20
Enoch65, at Methuselah’s birth300365Genesis 5:21–24

Mahalalel is Enoch’s grandfather; Jared is the intervening generation. The selected sum 895 + 365 = 1260 includes Mahalalel and Enoch only. It neither adds Jared’s lifespan nor represents three consecutive generations placed end to end.

Enoch’s terminal date is described here as the end of his recorded earthly life, when God takes him. That wording preserves Genesis 5:24 and Hebrews 11:5, even where the source table uses a general death-column heading for all patriarchs.

The four earlier fatherhood intervals are 130 + 105 + 90 + 70 = 395 (Genesis 5:3, 5:6, 5:9, 5:12, BSB). Each is already a multiple of five. Adding Mahalalel’s 895 gives 1290 in either of the two representations compared below.

2. Normal MT and Rounded coordinates

Jared’s birth36543646−8
Enoch’s birth34923486−6
Enoch taken by God31273121−6
Mahalalel’s death28242816−8
Moses’ birth152615260

A lower BC label is a later coordinate. The normal MT column uses the project’s 4114 BC Creation reference and the selected ordinary genealogy. The Rounded column follows File 51a’s regular Rounded scaffold. Its terminal patriarchal dates are derived within the source’s secondary theoretical layer.

The table deliberately compares the normal MT with the Rounded state. File 51a §3.1 also gives a different, strict comparison column that omits the Shem +2 allowance. Its 4112 BC Creation reference and six-year shift from Adam through Jared must not be substituted for the normal MT column here. The source’s §3.4 includes the normal MT allowance; the displayed changes for Creation and Mahalalel are consequently eight years. The separate MT Year-6 anchor of 4116 BC is not used in this study.

These are ordinary and Rounded regular coordinates, not the much earlier coordinates of the cumulative lifespan chronology. No second-Cainan insertion, +60 Terah shift, apparent-age addition, or BC/AD mirror is opened for the present comparison.

3. The lifespan sum and the actual overlap

Using the normal MT coordinates:

MeasurementCalculationYears
Mahalalel’s complete life3719 − 2824895
Enoch’s recorded earthly life3492 − 3127365
Mahalalel’s birth to Enoch’s birth3719 − 3492227
Enoch’s removal to Mahalalel’s death3127 − 2824303
Mahalalel’s life partitioned around Enoch227 + 365 + 303895
The two selected life totals added895 + 3651260

Both lives fit within the 895-year interval from Mahalalel’s birth to his death. The 365 years of overlap are counted once in that elapsed interval and twice when the complete lengths of the two lives are added. Thus the union of their lifetimes is 895 years, while the sum of their recorded lives is 1260.

The Rounded coordinates retain both total lifespans but slightly alter their relative placement: 3711 − 3486 = 225, followed by Enoch’s 365, then 3121 − 2816 = 305. The partition is 225 + 365 + 305 = 895. This follows the rounded Jared fatherhood interval of 160, compared with the normal 162; Mahalalel’s preceding 65 remains unchanged.

The introductory lifespan diagram uses the normal MT placement. It does not combine the 227-year normal birth gap with Rounded dates.

Normal MT and Rounded coordinates on one shared BC-year scale

The bars share the same absolute scale: 4114 → 1526 BC. Eight-year shifts are drawn to scale.

Creation and Mahalalel’s death move 8 years later.4114 → 4106 BC and 2824 → 2816 BC; Moses’ birth remains 1526 BC. The first interval stays 1290; the second becomes 1290.

The Rounded death date is a secondary theoretical layer. It does not replace the actual MT death date.

The first 1290-year span is preserved because Creation and Mahalalel’s death both shift 8 years later. Moses’ 1526 BC anchor stays fixed, so the second span changes from 1298 to 1290. The exact midpoint belongs to the Rounded construction.

Calculation and model details

All bar positions share the absolute BC scale 4114 → 1526 BC. The Rounded row starts 8 years later; its midpoint is 8 years later; both rows end at 1526 BC. The slight 8-year offset is drawn to scale and is stated in words because it is too small to read reliably at phone size. The normal MT row uses actual death dates, while the Rounded death date is a secondary theoretical layer.

Image version and full-size downloadsNormal MT: Creation 4114 BC, Mahalalel death 2824 BC, Moses birth 1526 BC, intervals 1290 and 1298, total 2588. Rounded: Creation 4106 BC, Mahalalel death 2816 BC, Moses birth 1526 BC, intervals 1290 and 1290, total 2580. Both rows share a scale; eight-year displacements are not exaggerated.

The first interval is invariant because Creation and Mahalalel’s death move together by eight years in this comparison. Moses’ 1526 BC anchor remains fixed. The second interval therefore contracts by eight, from 1298 to 1290.

The midpoint check is exact:

(4106 + 1526) ÷ 2 = 2816.

The corresponding normal-MT midpoint would be (4114 + 1526) ÷ 2 = 2820 BC, four years later than the normal Mahalalel death coordinate of 2824 BC. The Rounded midpoint must therefore remain explicitly labelled.

The equivalent factorizations are 1290 = 3 × 430 and 2580 = 6 × 430 = 2 × 1290. File 51a §4A.9 explicitly records these selected endpoints. Its wider frequency analysis is not needed to verify the two intervals, and no statistical significance estimate is asserted here.

5. How the Rounded terminal dates are derived

The regular Rounded scaffold first rounds chronological fatherhood inputs to the nearest multiple of five and propagates the resulting dates backward from Jacob’s 2006 BC birth anchor. The secondary terminal-date layer then rounds the years remaining after fatherhood separately, adds the two portions, and subtracts that represented lifespan from the Rounded birth date.

PersonRounded fatherhood ageRounded remaining yearsRepresented totalTerminal calculation, BC
Mahalalel658308953711 − 895 = 2816
Jared1608009603646 − 960 = 2686
Enoch653003653486 − 365 = 3121

Mahalalel’s and Enoch’s totals need no numerical change. Their coordinates change because the larger chronological sequence has been represented in the Rounded state. This method does not round 2824 directly to 2816; direct nearest-five rounding of 2824 would give 2825 and is not the operation being used.

File 51a §3.4 calls this terminal-date layer secondary and theoretical. The article preserves that classification. It also remains separate from the cumulative method used in other studies, where complete lifespans are rounded directly before being stacked. For Mahalalel and Enoch the two methods retain the same 895 and 365, but the methods and their date coordinates are not interchangeable.

6. A supporting 360-year relationship

File 51a §10.7 identifies another interval that survives in both representations: Adam’s death to Mahalalel’s death is 360 years.

RepresentationCalculationYears
Normal MT3184 − 2824360
Rounded terminal-date layer3176 − 2816360

This gives a second partition of the same Creation-to-Mahalalel total:

930 + 360 = 1290.

The first 930 is Adam’s lifespan in the source’s Creation-reference table; the remaining 360 reaches Mahalalel’s death. This is additional structure within the first 1290, rather than another independent 1290 added to the main timeline.

Revelation 11:3 and Daniel 12:11, BSBProphetic day-counts compared typologically with the genealogical numbers

The agreement of numerical values does not erase their units: the prophetic passages count days, while the genealogy gives years. The article’s connection with witness and appointed time is a theological reading of that numerical correspondence. An identification of these patriarchs as Revelation’s witnesses requires an interpretive argument beyond addition or midpoint arithmetic.
