The four-stage framework comes first, followed by its derivations and the regular MT data. The remaining tables supply family context, the age-99 comparison, cumulative coordinates, links to other Peleg divisions, and the Rounded birth-and-death relationships.
A1. The four-stage lifespan-halving framework
The ideal sequence is 960 → 480 → 240 → 120. Peleg marks the transition between the upper pair, 960 and 480, and the lower pair, 240 and 120. These are stages in the framework; their supporting MT values are set beside them.
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Stage and marker | Ideal value | Supporting MT value | How the stage is used |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adam | 960 | 930-year life + 30 apparent-age premise = 960 | Exact under the stated apparent-age premise; Adam’s textual lifespan remains 930. |
| Early post-Flood stage, marked by Shem | 480 | Shem-to-Eber average: 483.75 | Approximate group witness. Shem’s own lifespan is 600. |
| Peleg, with Reu confirming the transition | 240 | Peleg 239; Reu 239 | Actual lifespans near 240; Peleg begins the lower pair of stages. |
| Moses | 120 | 120-year life | The actual lifespan supplies the final stage. |
960 ÷ 2 = 480; 480 ÷ 2 = 240; 240 ÷ 2 = 120. The three halvings are exact within the ideal framework. The actual lifespans witness that framework approximately. A2 shows the component values and means.
Source: File 23 §§5.3, 5.6, 5.8 and 5.11. This table opens no alternative BC dates. Peleg’s regular life remains 2357–2118 BC.
A2. Actual, rounded, and ideal values
The early post-Flood comparison uses the same four names in both columns:
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Patriarch | Actual MT lifespan | Rounded comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Shem | 600 | 600 |
| Arphaxad | 438 | 440 |
| Shelah | 433 | 435 |
| Eber | 464 | 465 |
| Total | 1935 | 1940 |
| Mean: total ÷ 4 | 483.75 | 485 |
The actual mean is 1935 ÷ 4 = 483.75; the separately rounded mean is 1940 ÷ 4 = 485. Both belong near the ideal 480 stage. The rounded mean is not exactly 480 in this normal MT, no-restored-Cainan group.
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Marker | Actual or textual value | Rounded or schematic comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Adam | 930 | 930 + 30 = 960 under the apparent-age premise; this is an addition, not ordinary rounding. |
| Peleg | 30 + 209 = 239 | Rounded lifespan 240; ideal stage 240. |
| Reu | 32 + 207 = 239 | Rounded lifespan 240; a repeat of Peleg’s actual lifespan. |
| Moses | 120 | Ideal stage 120; no adjustment. |
The rounded lifespan entries are the comparison retained in File 23 §5.11. They do not turn its separate schematic date table into the actual MT chronology or the Rounded Scaffold chronology. Adam’s 30-year apparent-age addition is the premise specified in §5.3.
A3. Regular MT dates and lifespan arithmetic
The chronology used for the regular dates
The default is MT, Nisan, 430 years in Egypt, without +60 Terah or restored second Cainan. The regular anchors are Creation 4114, Flood 2458, Arphaxad 2456, and Abraham 2166 BC. The symbolic Creation week is 4121–4114, with Adam’s Year 6 beginning in 4116. Those Creation labels have different roles and are not interchangeable.
Peleg’s regular life is 2357–2118 BC, 239 years. The division at Babel is placed at 2357. The former 15-year delay to Babel is rejected.
File 18 §§2.1.2–2.3 supplies minimum regular rows; adding 215 gives the selected normal dates. For example, Peleg’s 2142–1903 becomes 2357–2118. Adding 215 to both endpoints leaves his lifespan unchanged. The +60 Terah option is shown in A5.
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Patriarch | Regular life, BC | Endpoint subtraction | Begetting interval + remaining years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arphaxad | 2456–2018 | 2456 − 2018 = 438 | 35 + 403 = 438 |
| Shelah | 2421–1988 | 2421 − 1988 = 433 | 30 + 403 = 433 |
| Eber | 2391–1927 | 2391 − 1927 = 464 | 34 + 430 = 464 |
| Peleg | 2357–2118 | 2357 − 2118 = 239 | 30 + 209 = 239 |
| Reu | 2327–2088 | 2327 − 2088 = 239 | 32 + 207 = 239 |
| Serug | 2295–2065 | 2295 − 2065 = 230 | 30 + 200 = 230 |
| Nahor | 2265–2117 | 2265 − 2117 = 148 | 29 + 119 = 148 |
| Terah | 2236–2031 | 2236 − 2031 = 205 | 70 + 135 = 205 |
| Abraham | 2166–1991 | 2166 − 1991 = 175 | 100 + 75 = 175 |
The last column uses the selected MT begetting interval to the next named patriarch; Abraham’s row uses Isaac. The first seven decompositions follow Genesis 11. Terah’s 70 is the default chronological begetting setting; 135 is calculated as 205 − 70. Abraham’s remaining 75 is calculated as 175 − 100. The +60 Terah setting instead uses 130 at Abraham’s birth; it does not change Terah’s total life of 205.
Arphaxad, Shelah, and Eber live 438, 433, and 464 years. Peleg, Reu, and Serug live 239, 239, and 230. The change is pronounced, but Eber’s 464 is not exactly twice Peleg’s 239: half of 464 is 232.
Arphaxad → Shelah → Eber → Peleg advances by 35 + 30 + 34 = 99 years. In the selected seven-name MT sequence from Arphaxad to Nahor, Peleg is fourth.
The group means and actual-versus-rounded comparisons are in A2.

A4. Who was living when Peleg was born?
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Observation at 2357 BC | Gear 2 reference | Gear 1 comparison | Readable description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Noah: age at Peleg’s birth | 3058 − 2357 = 701 | 3056 − 2357 = 699 | About 700 |
| Shem: age at Peleg’s birth | 2558 − 2357 = 201 | 2556 − 2357 = 199 | About 200 |
| Shem: years remaining | 2357 − 1958 = 399 | 2357 − 1956 = 401 | About 400 |
| Arphaxad: age at Peleg’s birth | 2456 − 2357 = 99 | Same fixed dates | 99 |
| Since the normal Flood start | 2458 − 2357 = 101 | Flood remains 2458 here | 101 years |
The Noah/Shem whole lives are respectively 3058–2108 and 2558–1958 in Gear 2; 3056–2106 and 2556–1956 in Gear 1. These are distinct bindings, not uncertainty margins or simultaneous ages. The Flood remains at the selected normal 2458 reference and Arphaxad remains fixed at 2456 in this local comparison. No gear change is being extended to Peleg or other patriarchs.
File 18 §§1.3.5 and 2.2.1 recognizes the Noah/Flood-bound and Arphaxad-bound Shem readings. File 47 §0.3 and §§5.1–5.2 distinguish the 2558 biological/triad reference from the 2556 elected-lineage station. Preserve those roles when quoting the pairing file; the table above is a comparison of the admitted bindings.
A5. The two age-99 events and overlapping lives

| Setting | Person | Birth BC | Event | Event BC | Age |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal MT | Arphaxad | 2456 | Peleg’s birth / division at Babel | 2357 | 99 |
| Normal MT | Abraham | 2166 | Circumcision / Sodom year | 2067 | 99 |
| MT +60 Terah | Arphaxad | 2516 | Peleg’s birth / division at Babel | 2417 | 99 |
| MT +60 Terah | Abraham | 2166 | Circumcision / Sodom year | 2067 | 99 |
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Setting | Babel to the circumcision/Sodom year |
|---|---|
| Normal MT | 2357 − 2067 = 290 years |
| MT +60 Terah | 2417 − 2067 = 350 years |
Arphaxad’s age is independently recoverable from the genealogy: 35 + 30 + 34 = 99. Genesis 17:1 and 17:24 explicitly give Abraham’s age as 99. The current chronology places circumcision and Sodom in 2067 BC, before Isaac’s birth in 2066; the BC year is a chronological reconstruction, not a date printed in Genesis.
The +60 option shifts Terah and earlier generations 60 years earlier. It therefore moves Arphaxad 2456 → 2516 and Peleg 2357 → 2417, leaving Abraham 2166 and the circumcision/Sodom year 2067 fixed. Both ages remain 99.
Because the two ages match, 2456 − 2166 = 2357 − 2067 = 290. This is one relationship expressed through births and through events, not two independent confirmations. The same dependency applies to 350 in the +60 state.

The Lord’s descent to inspect Babel and Sodom is in Genesis 11:5–7 and Genesis 18:20–21; the connection between the two is a literary/theological reading.
Arphaxad’s life contains Peleg’s whole life
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Part of Arphaxad’s life | Calculation | Years |
|---|---|---|
| Before Peleg was born | 2456 − 2357 | 99 |
| During Peleg’s life | 2357 − 2118 | 239 |
| After Peleg died | 2118 − 2018 | 100 |
| Arphaxad’s total | 99 + 239 + 100 | 438 |
Arphaxad is Peleg’s great-grandfather. He is 99 when Peleg is born and outlives him by 100 years. The calculation illustrates the overlapping generations and shortening lives.
A6. The same transition in cumulative MT
Regular chronology follows the ages at which successive descendants are born, so lives overlap. Cumulative chronology instead places complete lifespans end to end. Its boundaries answer a different question and must be labeled accordingly.
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Life placed in the stack | Nisan start, BC | Lifespan | Next boundary | Subtraction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eber | 3960 | 464 | Peleg 3496 | 3960 − 464 = 3496 |
| Peleg | 3496 | 239 | Reu 3257 | 3496 − 239 = 3257 |
| Reu | 3257 | 239 | Serug 3018 | 3257 − 239 = 3018 |
| Serug | 3018 | 230 | Nahor 2788 | 3018 − 230 = 2788 |
The compact comparison is 3960 → 3496 → 3257 → 3018, with successive blocks 464 | 239 | 239. Peleg’s 3496 boundary follows from subtracting Eber’s 464; his own 239-year block then reaches Reu at 3257.
Reading Peleg’s other cumulative labels
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Display | Peleg value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Moses line / Nisan | 3496 | Selected cumulative starting boundary for this example |
| Aaron line / Tishri, exact File 18 branch | 3499.5 | Separate +3.5-year phase branch |
| Published whole-year Aaron/Moses pair | *3499–3496 | Paired starting labels as displayed; not a 3-year lifespan |
| Nisan starting envelope | 3501–3494 | Seven-year starting envelope; not Peleg’s lifespan |
| Actual lifespan | 239 | The amount subtracted from a selected start to the next boundary |
File 18 §6A controls the Nisan stack and exact phase branch. The whole-year display is in the published cumulative MT table. The parallel Tishri envelope is 3502t–3495t; it is not substituted for the Nisan envelope. File 22 §3.5.1 explicitly uses 3496 as a cumulative dispersion marker. None of these labels changes Peleg’s normal regular birth in 2357.
A7. Further Peleg divisions: a source guide
The worked example belongs to a wider family of dividing roles. These pointers identify further comparisons and their settings.
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Source | Division or balance | Setting |
|---|---|---|
| File 23 §5.8.2 | 4406 → 4166 → 3926 gives 240 + 240 around the schematic Peleg starting boundary. | Priestly expansion of 2760 by 25/23 gives 3000; the added 240 supplies the earlier wing. Schematic coordinates, not regular birth dates. |
| File 23 §5.8.5b | 6566 → 4166 → 3926 → 1526 gives 2400 + 240 + 2400 around Peleg’s whole schematic life. | The explicitly restored-Cainan schematic comparison. It does not change the default no-Cainan MT table. |
| File 47 §5.1 | The Peleg–Reu pair completes the first half of the selected within-pair sums: 100 + 30 + 30 = 30 + 70 + 60 = 160. | S0/elected-lineage setting, no +60 Terah. These are selected interval sums; they are not two uninterrupted historical spans around Peleg’s birth. |
| File 22 §1.4.2 | Peleg marks the local 7 → approximately 3.5 resolution interpretation. | This does not replace File 18’s downstream seven-year envelopes or automatically identify the interpretation with the Aaron/Moses 3.5-year branch. |
Each route retains its own assumptions. The guide is a selection of further examples, not a complete inventory of Peleg’s appearances in the canonical files and research collection.
A8. Peleg’s Rounded dates and balanced intervals
This section uses the Rounded Regular MT construction of File 51a, without +60 Terah or restored second Cainan. Its Creation, Jared, Noah, and Flood coordinates are 4106, 3646, 3056, and 2456 BC. The normal regular dates in A3–A5 retain their own roles; in particular, the normal Flood remains 2458 BC and Peleg’s actual life remains 2357–2118 BC.
How 2356–2116 is obtained
Eber’s Rounded birth is 2391 BC. His begetting age, 34, rounds to 35, placing Peleg’s birth at 2391 − 35 = 2356 BC. Peleg’s begetting age remains 30; his 209 remaining years round to 210. Thus his Rounded lifespan is 30 + 210 = 240, and his death is 2356 − 240 = 2116 BC.
File 51a §§3.1 and 3.4 give these birth and death rows. The death calculation belongs to its secondary, theoretical Rounded layer; it does not revise the actual MT death in 2118. The remaining-years method is distinct from independently rounding whole lifespans in A2. Both yield 240 for Peleg; for Reu, whole-life rounding gives 240, while the remaining-years method gives 30 + 205 = 235.
The retained comparisons
All dates in this table are BC. Ordinary same-era subtraction gives the listed intervals.
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Relationship | Calculation | Years |
|---|---|---|
| Rounded Creation → Peleg’s birth | 4106 − 2356 | 1750 = 70 × 25 |
| Peleg’s birth → Exile begins | 2356 − 606 | 1750 = 70 × 25 |
| Jared’s birth → Peleg’s birth | 3646 − 2356 | 1290 |
| Noah’s birth → Peleg’s birth | 3056 − 2356 | 700 |
| Rounded Flood → Peleg’s birth | 2456 − 2356 | 100 |
| Peleg’s birth → Rounded death | 2356 − 2116 | 240 = 2 × 120 |
| Peleg’s Rounded death → Entry nexus | 2116 − 1876 | 240 = 2 × 120 |
| Jared’s birth → Peleg’s Rounded death | 3646 − 2116 | 1530 |
| Peleg’s Rounded death → Fall of Jerusalem | 2116 − 586 | 1530 |
| Peleg’s birth → Exodus | 2356 − 1446 | 910 |
| Exodus → Exile ends | 1446 − 536 | 910 |
| Exile begins → Exile ends | 606 − 536 | 70 |
The three divisions centered on Peleg are 3500 = 1750 + 1750, with his birth at the midpoint, and 480 = 240 + 240 and 3060 = 1530 + 1530, both centered on his Rounded death. The related 1820 = 910 + 910 comparison begins at his birth and has the Exodus as its midpoint. File 51a §§3.1–3.4, 4.1, 4.3, 4A.9, 5.1, and 11.1 supply the Rounded dates and span comparisons; §17.3 also names the fall of Jerusalem at 586 BC. The 1876 Entry nexus is developed in File 51b §1.1c. The table displays the arithmetic of these selected nodes, without treating related sums as independent proofs.
Why 2116 matters in the 529-year framework
2116 = 4 × 529 = 46², and 4232 = 8 × 529. The 4232 / 8464 / 12696 Mirror study, §§1.1–1.3 and 3.1–3.4, uses the paired boundary 2117t/2116n BC ↔︎ AD 2116t/2117n, centered at −2116 and +2116 in its stated seasonal model. Here t and n denote Tishri and Nisan. Within that framework, the actual deaths of Peleg in 2118 BC and Nahor in 2117 BC supply the two-year and one-year offsets about the 2116 center. File 51a §3.4 brings both Rounded deaths to 2116 BC. This connects the Rounded death date with the Mirror study’s numerical landmark while preserving the actual biographies.
The Mirror study’s seasonal construction and the September 25 Rounded display convention are distinct. In the pure Rounded display, 2116 BC and AD 2116 represent coordinates −2115 and +2115: a Rounded width of 4230, compared with 4231 by ordinary civil year counting. The Mirror study’s 4232 is its paired-boundary width; it is not the elapsed interval between those two unphased Rounded labels. No civil year zero is introduced.
