This appendix supports Regular and Cumulative Chronology: The Same Patriarchal Pattern. It gives the calculations behind the figures without requiring the reader to reconstruct the entire canonical repository.

Which chronology is being used?
The default is the Masoretic Text (MT), Nisan reckoning, 430 years in Egypt, no additional 60 years for Terah, and no second Cainan. Restored Cainan is opened explicitly for the comparisons that require him. The article uses precise regular and cumulative tables, not Rounded Chronology.
Regular chronology follows successive births and the later chronological framework. The Exodus anchor is 1446 BC. Cumulative chronology adds complete lifespans along the ancestral line and anchors its end at Moses’ death / the Conquest, 1406 BC. The 40-year difference between those terminal events is retained.
The ordinary cumulative Moses-line total is 12600 years. Adding it to the 1406 BC terminal anchor gives the 14006 BC Adam Year-6 position. The broader canonical Creation range is 14011–14004 BC. The seven-year week is the primary structural object in this cumulative framework. Its whole-year positions remain distinct from the separate Nisan/Tishri half-year phase; the range is not a claim that Adam had several historical births. The cumulative-method article explains the ancestral line and its Moses/Aaron foundation more fully.
All simple date differences below remain on the BC side of the era boundary. Ordinary subtraction therefore applies. The completed-boundary convention in the Jared–Cainan ladder is separately identified; it must not be imported into the other tables.
Table 1. The same five patriarchs, two sums
Genesis 5 supplies both columns. Each row carries the line forward to the next named patriarch, ending at Jared.
| Patriarch | Next in the line | Age at the next birth | Complete lifespan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adam | Seth | 130 | 930 |
| Seth | Enosh | 105 | 912 |
| Enosh | Kenan | 90 | 905 |
| Kenan | Mahalalel | 70 | 910 |
| Mahalalel | Jared | 65 | 895 |
| Total to Jared | 460 | 4552 |
Regular: 130 + 105 + 90 + 70 + 65 = 460.
Cumulative: 930 + 912 + 905 + 910 + 895 = 4552.
For the first row alone, the surrounding passage, Genesis 5:3–5, BSB, distinguishes Adam’s age of 130 at Seth’s birth, his subsequent 800 years, and his complete 930-year life. Thus 130 + 800 = 930. Cumulative chronology uses the complete life once; it does not add the 130 to the 930.

Table 2. Ordinary table positions before Cainan is restored
The table compares ordinary MT positions with Cainan absent in both methods. Regular dates use the 430-year Egyptian framework; cumulative dates are formal positions in the lifespan sum anchored at 1406 BC.
| Relationship | Regular MT positions, BC | Regular span | Cumulative MT positions, BC | Cumulative span |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adam → Seth | 4114 → 3984 | 130 | 14006 → 13076 | 930 |
| Adam → Jared | 4114 → 3654 | 460 | 14006 → 9454 | 4552 |
| Jared → Lamech | 3654 → 3240 | 414 | 9454 → 7158 | 2296 |
The regular positions use the normal 430-year Egyptian framework. File 18’s minimum regular table is 215 years later for these early figures; adding 215 supplies the normal positions shown here. This addition selects the normal MT framework; it is not an extra 215 years added to an already normal date.
The regular 4114 BC entry is the genealogical table’s Creation endpoint. The separate regular Year-6 opening position is 4116 BC, as File 00 §3.4.4 specifies for the Creation-week-as-years state. The cumulative 14006 BC position is expressly Year 6. Table 2 compares internally consistent differences within each method; it does not equate these two kinds of Adam position or calculate a cross-method Creation bridge between them.
The third row supplies a useful check: 162 + 65 + 187 = 414, while 962 + 365 + 969 = 2296. The cumulative number is the sum of Jared’s, Enoch’s, and Methuselah’s complete lifespans. These ordinary positions should remain visible when considering more specialized comparisons. A selected relationship does not establish a uniform enlargement of the whole chronology.

Table 3. Restoring the second Cainan
The second Cainan is inserted between Arphaxad and Shelah. He is distinct from the first Kenan, whose lifespan in Table 1 is 910 years. In the comparison used here, Cainan begets Shelah at 130 and lives 460 years altogether.
| Method | Quantity added | Effect on earlier positions | Example of the same position before → after |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular MT with Cainan restored | 130-year father-to-son interval | Arphaxad and the earlier line move 130 years earlier | Creation endpoint: 4114 → 4244 BC |
| Cumulative MT with Cainan restored | 460-year complete lifespan | Arphaxad and the earlier line move 460 years earlier | Adam Year 6: 14006 → 14466 BC |
The later line beginning with Shelah stays fixed. Cainan’s own position is supplied by the insertion; there is no original MT Cainan date to shift. The restored regular dates 2551–2091 BC use the normal Egyptian sojourn and no Terah +60. These dates do not require a special Gear-3 adjustment.
The canonical Gear-3 comparison involving the first Kenan is a separate extension governed by File 11 and File 18, §1.3.7. It is not needed to produce the paired Cainan transfer in this article.

Table 4. The birth and death transfers
The cumulative restored-Cainan birth range is 4858–4851 BC, and its death / Shelah-birth range is 4398–4391 BC. Select the lower member of each range, as File 22 does for the 2300-year transfer.
| Endpoint or interval | Cumulative restored Cainan | Regular restored Cainan | Difference between methods |
|---|---|---|---|
| Birth position | 4851 BC | 2551 BC | 4851 − 2551 = 2300 |
| Death position | 4391 BC | 2091 BC | 4391 − 2091 = 2300 |
| Complete lifespan | 4851 − 4391 = 460 | 2551 − 2091 = 460 | Same 460-year length |
The regular birth can also be derived from Shelah’s unchanged birth at 2421 BC: 2421 + 130 = 2551 BC. Subtract Cainan’s full 460-year life to obtain 2091 BC. In regular chronology, Shelah is born during Cainan’s life. In cumulative chronology, Cainan’s completed life ends where Shelah’s formal lifespan position begins. This difference is intrinsic to the two methods.
Both cross-method transfers equal 2300 = 5 × 460 = 100 × 23. File 22’s sanctuary association refers to Daniel 8:14. The numerical comparison and the prophetic interpretation remain distinguishable.

Table 5. The ranges used in the Jared–Cainan ladder
The table separates the original cumulative MT state from the restored-Cainan state. These are the forwarded seven-year ranges used in the ladder, rather than the single positions selected in Table 2.
| Person / boundary | Original cumulative MT | Cumulative MT with Cainan restored |
|---|---|---|
| Jared | 9459–9452 BC | 9919–9912 BC |
| Second Cainan: birth | Not present | 4858–4851 BC |
| Second Cainan: death / Shelah birth | Shelah birth: 4398–4391 BC; no Cainan death attribution | 4398–4391 BC |
Both ends of Jared’s range move by 460: 9919 − 9459 = 460 and 9912 − 9452 = 460. Both ends of Cainan’s birth-to-death comparison also differ by 460: 4858 − 4398 = 460 and 4851 − 4391 = 460.
The first two comparisons in the next table deliberately compare original Jared with the restored Cainan field. The last two use restored Jared. They are four stated comparisons, not four consecutive segments of one timeline.
Table 6. Printed labels and completed boundary spans
These comparisons pair original or restored Jared with restored Cainan. The printed endpoint differences and File 22’s completed-boundary spans use the distinct counting conventions shown in separate columns.
| Comparison | Difference of corresponding opening labels | Completed boundary span in File 22 §6.1 | Units of 460 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original Jared → restored Cainan’s birth | 9459 − 4858 = 4601 | 4600 | 10 |
| Original Jared → restored Cainan’s death | 9459 − 4398 = 5061 | 5060 | 11 |
| Restored Jared → restored Cainan’s birth | 9919 − 4858 = 5061 | 5060 | 11 |
| Restored Jared → restored Cainan’s death | 9919 − 4398 = 5521 | 5520 | 12 |
Using corresponding closing labels gives the same label differences: 9452 − 4851 = 4601; 9452 − 4391 = 5061; 9912 − 4851 = 5061; and 9912 − 4391 = 5521.
File 22 §6.1 assigns the extra 1 to the endpoint-label convention in these forwarded seven-year ranges. Its completed-boundary values are therefore the corresponding label differences less one. Figure 4 follows that explicitly stated convention. It does not claim that ordinary subtraction of 9459 and 4858 equals 4600.
The step sizes remain transparent under either column: shifting Jared’s range adds 460, and extending the target from Cainan’s birth to his death adds 460. Thus 4600 + 460 = 5060 and 5060 + 460 = 5520 under the completed-boundary convention. The two middle results are the same because each makes exactly one of those changes.
This local convention belongs to the canonical comparison being illustrated. The ordinary differences in Tables 1–4 need no additional one-year adjustment. The ladder also does not turn a seven-year range into an eight-year duration simply because both endpoint labels are printed.
