These tables support Counting from Creation: AM Dates and Elapsed Years. They use 4121 BC = AM 1 and the normal MT chronology unless a comparison explicitly names another origin.
The normal setting retains the 430-year Egyptian sojourn, no +60 Terah shift, no restored second Cainan, and the Nisan convention. The selected Shem biography is the normal Nisan-aligned Gear-2 pair, 2558–1958 BC, preserving 600 years. A different chronological setting must be identified before converting its dates.
These are annual coordinates. Differences between corresponding annual boundaries give the stated offsets; a year label alone does not fix an event’s month and day. The tables do not add day-level precision to reconstructed dates.

1. The conversion rule
Let E be the BC year assigned to AM 1, B an event’s BC year, and A its numbered AM year. For events on the BC side:
A = E − B + 1.
Elapsed-year offset = E − B = A − 1.
For the primary origin E = 4121:
A = 4122 − B.
B = 4122 − A.
The reverse formula applies while the result is a positive BC year. A zero result signals the transition to the AD branch explained in §4; it is not a civil “0 BC.”
| Example | Elapsed offset | Numbered AM year |
|---|---|---|
| Origin, 4121 BC | 4121 − 4121 = 0 | 1 |
| Abraham’s birth, 2166 BC | 4121 − 2166 = 1955 | 1956 |
| Abraham’s Call, 2091 BC | 4121 − 2091 = 2030 | 2031 |
| Exodus, 1446 BC | 4121 − 1446 = 2675 | 2676 |
The final two columns answer different questions. One counts the distance from the origin at the corresponding boundary; the other names the year beginning there. Adding 1 converts the first kind of number into the second. It does not add a year to a lifespan.
2. The first seven intervals
File 07 §3.1 treats the figurative Creation week as 5 + 1 + 1. Its normal wrapper begins at 4121 BC and ends at 4114 BC. This display translates each boundary consistently:
| Boundary, BC | AM year beginning | Years completed | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4121 | 1 | 0 | First year begins |
| 4120 | 2 | 1 | Second year begins |
| 4119 | 3 | 2 | Third year begins |
| 4118 | 4 | 3 | Fourth year begins |
| 4117 | 5 | 4 | Fifth year begins |
| 4116 | 6 | 5 | Year-6 / Adam position |
| 4115 | 7 | 6 | Seventh year begins |
| 4114 | 8 | 7 | Seventh year complete; normal reference |
AM 7 occupies the interval from the 4115 BC boundary to the 4114 BC boundary. Its completion coincides with the beginning of AM 8. This accounts for the source’s completed-Year-7 endpoint without assigning that endpoint the wrong ordinal label.
The normal genealogy’s Adam reference span, 4114–3184 BC, converts to AM 8–938, preserving 930. The separate 4116 BC Year-6 position must not be combined with the unchanged normal death coordinate to manufacture 932 years. That would substitute an endpoint from another representation. File 07’s Year-6 and endpoint distinction controls this explanatory diagram; File 18 controls the selected normal-table biographies.
The Creation dates are positions within this chronological model. The seven-year wrapper is a figurative representation and does not change the literal seven-day narrative into seven ordinary historical years.
3. Selected events in BC, elapsed offsets and AM
Every AM value in this table is generated from the displayed BC coordinate by 4121 − B + 1. The source describes the event and chronological setting; the conversion adds its AM label.
On narrow screens, scroll tables horizontally to see every column.

The Flood is represented by a start and a close, 2458–2457 BC, which convert to AM 1664–1665. These are distinct endpoints of the model’s Flood interval. They are not alternative choices for the same event label.
The normal Creation reference and Flood start preserve 4114 − 2458 = 1656. The AM comparison is 1664 − 8 = 1656. From the earlier wrapper start, the elapsed offset is instead 4121 − 2458 = 1663. The origin must be stated when those totals are compared.
4. Crossing from BC to AD
Civil BC/AD counting has no year 0, as the U.S. Naval Observatory explains. At corresponding annual boundaries, 1 BC → AD 1 advances one year. For an origin E BC and an AD year D:
Elapsed-year offset = E + D − 1.
Numbered AM year = E + D.
With E = 4121, AD 1 = AM 4122. The same rule gives the following local sequence:

Across 1 BC and AD 1
Civil year labels change direction; the AM count continues forward.
Primary epoch: 4121 BC = AM 1
Every neighboring pair is one year apart.
Check the cross-axis interval
2 BC → AD 2
2 + 2 − 1 = 3 years
4123 − 4120 = 3 years
Elapsed offset zero belongs to the chosen Creation starting boundary. It is not a missing civil year between BC and AD. Annual labels here use the same seasonal alignment; Nisan 1 is not January 1.

Calculation and model details
At corresponding annual boundaries: for a BC year B, elapsed offset = 4121 − B and AM = 4122 − B. For an AD year D, elapsed offset = 4121 + D − 1 and AM = 4121 + D. The civil cross-axis span is BC + AD − 1. Nisan-based annual alignment is assumed; this diagram does not equate Nisan 1 with January 1.

| Civil coordinate | Elapsed offset from 4121 BC | Numbered AM year |
|---|---|---|
| 2 BC | 4119 | 4120 |
| 1 BC | 4120 | 4121 |
| AD 1 | 4121 | 4122 |
| AD 2 | 4122 | 4123 |
The zero elapsed offset at the beginning of AM 1 is a measurement origin. It does not introduce a year 0 into civil BC/AD dating or create an AM 0 in this one-based system.
For any civil interval from B BC to AD D, the span between corresponding annual coordinates is B + D − 1. For example, 2 BC → AD 2 is 2 + 2 − 1 = 3 years, also AM 4123 − AM 4120 = 3. These examples illustrate the dating scale; they make no claim about the historical date of Jesus’ birth.
To convert a positive AM year back to civil notation with this origin, use BC = 4122 − AM through AM 4121. From AM 4122 onward, use AD = AM − 4121. A date earlier than the selected origin should be described as before that origin rather than silently introducing negative numbered AM years here.
5. Selected lifespans: the interval is preserved
For birth B₁ BC and later endpoint B₂ BC, converting both dates gives:
A₂ − A₁ = (E − B₂ + 1) − (E − B₁ + 1) = B₁ − B₂.
The origin E and the added 1 cancel. The result is independent of the chosen origin, provided both endpoints use the same origin and year-boundary convention.

Enoch’s endpoint is his taking by God, not a recorded death. His 365 years remain the interval used in the selected biography. Joshua’s normal lifespan remains 1476–1366 BC, or AM 2646–2756, preserving 110.
The table converts the source’s aligned annual coordinates. Scripture’s reported ages remain independently stated inputs; year labels by themselves cannot establish exact age at an unknown point within a year.
6. Comparing origins without mixing them
The second AM column below is an explicitly separate comparison assigning 4114 BC to AM 1. It is included to demonstrate how relabelling works; the primary tables above continue to use 4121 BC.
| Person | AM span from 4121 BC = AM 1 | AM span from 4114 BC = AM 1 | Same lifespan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abraham | 1956–2131 | 1949–2124 | 175 |
| Sarah | 1966–2093 | 1959–2086 | 127 |
| Moses | 2596–2716 | 2589–2709 | 120 |
Moving the origin seven years later reduces every AM label by seven. Both ends move together.
Sarah makes the error of mixed origins easy to see. Her birth is AM 1966 under the first origin, while her death is AM 2086 under the second. Subtracting 2086 − 1966 = 120 combines unlike scales. The valid comparisons are 2093 − 1966 = 127 and 2086 − 1959 = 127. No seven years have been removed from her life.
Similarly, counting all integer labels from AM 1956 through AM 2131 inclusively gives 176 labels. The difference between the corresponding endpoints is 175 intervals. Inclusive enumeration of labels and elapsed-time subtraction are different operations; neither should be silently substituted for the other.
Changing a source reading, the Egyptian-sojourn setting or a fatherhood age is a change to the chronology’s inputs. Converting a fixed set of dates to AM is a change of notation. MT, SP and LXX chronologies must retain their own stated textual and chronological settings during either operation.
7. Sources and scope
| Source | What it controls here |

The conversion rule does not validate a chronology merely by expressing it in AM form. It makes the chosen chronology easier to compare and check. These tables retain one normal setting so that differences in origin, numbering and source inputs remain identifiable.
